One thing leads to another. I’m currently in a Scrabble-playing phase. It caused me to pick up my copy of Stephan Fatsis’ Word Freak, the definitive book on professional and amateur Scrabble.
For some reason, it reminded me of the years I spent studying chess, and then go. I played and studied them both long enough to understand clearly I’d never be anything better than an average kitchen-table player… [to be continued]
